Oxfordshire 500 is based on the idea that a group of members (who are anonymous to each other) pay a very small amount of money each month that collectively turns into a small donation to a local person, group or cause in the county. It provides a very targeted £500 gift each month that could make a lot of difference to a family or community group that is struggling in some way. The person or people getting the award are nominated and voted on by the members of Oxfordshire 500 who are also monthly contributors.
Since November 2021 Oxfordshire 500 has given monthly gifts of at least £500 (over £35,000 in total). Please look at past donations on the History page.
We have given two donations this September. The first to a grandmother who has taken responsibility for the care of her two grandchildren who can't remain with their parents due to their challenges with mental health, substance abuse and neglect. She gave up her employment to care for both children which has resulted in a limited family income. Secondly we have donated to Didcot Foodbank who are struggling at the moment. They are running on a deficit and now can only offer help to those in absolute food poverty whilst they have previously been able to help those struggling generally.
Next request for nominations will be sent out end October
